2.Beginning with Orientation

FET@KU
Forum of English Teacher Educators of Kannur University
As early as 1953  the Mudhaliyar Commission  had  proposed  a  two year  BEd programme…But it has becoming  a   reality  only now…

The new BEd curriculum  developed by  Kannur University has identified  three main  areas :
1.Perspectives in Education
2.Curriculum and Pedagogical Studies
3.Engagement with the field
The new four semester  BEd programme  which would comprise 100 instructional days per semester [6 hours a day]  is   definitely  an  increase in  instructional hours compared to the previous  BEd programme offered by the University!
The  complete  BEd curriculum it was informed would be uploaded in the University website  shortly.  But  classes for the new  batch  would commence   on Wednesday,  01  July  2015. But unless we teacher educators   familiarize ourselves with the course  content  it  would  not be  possible to  develop an  instructional  plan.  Hence it was decided through consensus  by the English teacher educators present during the workshop held on 26  June 2015  to  engage sessions on the following  areas for the new batch of students during July 2015:
*Familiarize  trainees with the nature of language particularly Second Language and   Language Education
*Orientation to  the teaching of English, its aims and objectives
Activities to  improve   communicative competence  may also be attempted
It is hoped that it would be possible to meet again during the last week of July to develop an instructional plan…
